Are ChatGPT API Results the Same as the Chat App?

Issue 2

FIRST…

I've been playing around with ChatGPT API in Google Docs and Google Sheets. The results are a mixed bag here.

There are a number of pros and cons. The main pros:

  • Super fast

  • Super cheap

  • Good for short responses

The main cons:

  • Results are not as good as GPT3's davinci-003 model

  • Much more editing is needed for lengthier content

The ChatGPT API overcorrects itself by adding disclaimers to almost every sentence that involves a potential opinion. Here are a couple of examples:

"As an AI language model, I'm unable to physically experience these wonders myself; however, if you're looking for a truly unforgettable vacation destination, Grand Canyon National Park should be at the top of your list."

"As an AI language model, I do not have personal preferences or opinions. However, I can provide information about Grand Canyon National Park..."

Yes, you can delete it, but once you start deleting a few dozen of those sentences, you'll get tired of it pretty quickly.

It could also be due the way my prompts were written though. But when the same prompt is put into ChatGPT's chat app, I got a much better, lengthier response that starts out:

"Overall, Grand Canyon National Park is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling..."

Give it a try though. AI tools built on OpenAI models are starting to switch over or at least add ChatGPT's API as an option. You can check out the results yourself.

Keith also shared a nice testimonial of the Topical Maps Unlocked course in his newsletter. If you've been thinking about signing up for the course, he has the only discount out there.

AI

OpenAI announces their ChatGPT API. Developers can now integrate ChatGPT and Whisper models into their apps and products through our API.

The ChatGPT model family we are releasing today, gpt-3.5-turbo, is the same model used in the ChatGPT product. It is priced at $0.002 per 1k tokens, which is 10x cheaper than our existing GPT-3.5 models. It’s also our best model for many non-chat use cases—we’ve seen early testers migrate from text-davinci-003 to gpt-3.5-turbo with only a small amount of adjustment needed to their prompts.

They share a few examples of people using the API in the real world:

  • Snapchat

  • Quizlet

  • Instacart

  • Shopify

Jordi Ribas from Bing's Search & AI team shares more behind-the-scenes information about how the new Bing came about and how it works.

They developed a proprietary technology we call Prometheus, which is a first-of-its-kind AI model that combines the fresh and comprehensive Bing index, ranking, and answers results with the creative reasoning capabilities of OpenAI’s most-advanced GPT models.

Prometheus leverages the power of Bing and GPT to generate a set of internal queries iteratively through a component called Bing Orchestrator, and aims to provide an accurate and rich answer for the user query within the given conversation context.

SEO IS DEAD!! At least, you'd be forgiven for thinking that if you've spent more than 5 minutes reading any type of online marketing-related news outlet. But let's be real: is the hysteria around AI warranted, or do we need to take a step back and relax for a moment?

BUSINESS IDEAS

Greg Elfrink from Empire Flippers shares his thoughts on AI and affiliate sites after a buyer pulled out of a $400k deal due to concerns around AI killing search. The main takeaways:

  • SEO as we know it will change… after a while. At lightning speed, we might see a significant shift in 2 years, more than likely we’re over 5 years away from a significant shift

  • LLM AI can’t replace current search due to the astronomical economics of deploying an AI in this way.

  • LLMs as they currently are, are already failing in search queries. They’re failing so hard that they’re spinning into existential crises while berating the user as per Bing’s LLM experience.

  • Content sites owners have a huge opportunity in front of them if they embrace AI

  • Now, perhaps more than ever, is the best time to buy an affiliate site IF you understand what you can truly do with an affiliate site.

Bill Widmer shares 20 online business ideas. As more people are building brands out of their sites, looking for other revenue streams is an important step to diversify income and lower the reliance on Google for traffic and earnings.

Diversifying income streams not only helps to increase revenue but also provides a buffer against sudden changes in search engine algorithms or other external factors that could impact website traffic. So, if you're looking to secure your website's financial future, it's time to start exploring alternative income streams beyond Google traffic.

This is a good list to get those revenue ideas jump-started. I might be doing a few of these myself now 😅
